Sabbatical Leave is a time for rest, renewal, reading, meditation, reflection, study, and travel. In ministry the emotional and psychological demands are great and the benefits from recharging and renewal are needed and welcome.
The Unitarian Universalist Association encourages the practice of sabbatical leaves as having long-lasting benefits for its ministers and congregations. A benefit for us as a congregation is an opportunity to rediscover the gifts for ministry we all share.
We look forward to welcoming Barbara and Bill back to the community, renewed and energized for our continuing ministry together.
Letter of Agreement with the Congregation
This church year begins Barbara and Bill’s thirteenth year as our co-ministers. Our agreement with our ministers is that sabbatical leave accrues at the rate of one month per year of completed service. Sabbatical leave may not be taken until the completion of five years of service.
Barbara and Bill had a sabbatical leave in 2002. They were eligible for a second sabbatical last January. They chose to postpone it because of Rev. Christopher Holton Jablonski’s paternity leave in the fall and the beginning of the 9:00 service last January. In January 2008, the Board of Trustees approved their sabbatical leave for January – June 2009.
Send-Off and Return
We will have a send off celebration for Barbara and Bill on Sunday, December 21. The Co-Ministers will lead the 10pm Christmas Eve Service on December 24.
They will attend General Assembly in Salt Lake City in late June. We will welcome them back on Sunday July 5.
